Dr. Christy McElroy is a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, and author dedicated to helping people understand themselves with clarity, compassion, and curiosity.

A widely recognized specialist in weight-inclusive mental health, Dr. McElroy has spent the last 20 years working in the field of eating disorders and bariatric psychological care. Her extensive clinical experience spans the entire continuum of recovery across every level of care—including inpatient hospitalization, partial hospitalization programs (PHP), intensive outpatient programs (IOP), and private practice. Driven by a commitment to evidence-based recovery, she helped develop, implement, and write the clinical programming for a specialized Binge Eating Disorder IOP, bridging the gap between clinical theory and real-world healing.

She is a passionate advocate for endocrine and metabolic mental health, Dr. McElroy’s specialized expertise is rooted in rigorous clinical research. She completed her doctoral dissertation specifically examining the prevalence of eating disorder symptomology in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a highly relevant, trending intersection of hormones and body image that she continues to treat and champion today.

This deep, two-decade clinical and research lens forms the foundation of her upcoming narrative nonfiction book, WHO TOLD YOU THAT? (currently in development). The book combines cultural history, psychology, and personal memoir to examine the exhausting “body assignments” handed to women across their lifespans, offering a definitive roadmap for putting down inherited rules and reclaiming somatic autonomy.

Dr. McElroy earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Health Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. As a therapist, she takes an integrative approach trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH). Beyond eating disorders, food noise, and body image concerns, her clinical practice supports adolescents and adults navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic illness, and major life transitions.

In addition to her psychotherapy practice, Dr. McElroy is highly active in leadership, conflict resolution, and mentorship. She serves as a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator, guiding families and individuals through structured, forward-focused conflict resolution. As an Approved Clinical Supervisor, she is deeply passionate about training and mentoring the next generation of mental health professionals.

Through her digital platform, educational videos, and writing, Dr. McElroy’s mission remains the same: to make psychology accessible, to invite people to challenge unhelpful narratives, and to create meaningful, lasting change—one conversation at a time.
