Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator (Dependency & County)
Approved Clinical Supervisor
EMDR-Trained Clinician
Trained in Clinical Hypnosis (American Society of Clinical Hypnosis)
Dr. Christy McElroy is a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator, Approved Clinical Supervisor, and educator dedicated to helping people better understand themselves with clarity, compassion, and curiosity.
She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Health Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Her clinical experience spans outpatient, inpatient, and primary care settings, where she has worked with adolescents, adults, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams across diverse levels of care.
As a therapist, Dr. McElroy takes an integrative, individualized approach grounded in evidence-based practice while honoring each client’s unique experiences and goals. Her areas of focus include trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, bariatric psychological care, body image concerns, self-harm, chronic illness and pain, and life transitions. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Clinical Hypnosis through the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and incorporates mindfulness-based approaches to support emotional regulation, resilience, and meaningful, lasting change.
A significant focus of Dr. McElroy’s work is eating disorder and bariatric psychological care. She has collaborated with multidisciplinary medical teams and helped develop evidence-based curriculum for a Binge Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program. Her work also includes supporting individuals before and after bariatric surgery, including those navigating eating disorders, body image concerns, food noise, and post-surgical challenges.
In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. McElroy serves as a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator, helping individuals and families navigate conflict through structured, respectful, and forward-focused conversations. As an Approved Clinical Supervisor, she is also passionate about mentoring and supporting the next generation of mental health professionals.
Beyond the therapy office, Dr. McElroy is committed to making psychology accessible to everyone. Through educational videos, writing, and digital resources, she explores body image, diet culture, food noise, recovery, and the psychological impact of the messages we absorb from the world around us. Rather than offering quick fixes or simple answers, she invites people to think more deeply about the beliefs they’ve inherited, the stories they tell themselves, and the ways curiosity can open the door to healing.
Whether she’s working with a therapy client, facilitating a mediation, supervising a clinician, or creating educational content, Dr. McElroy’s mission remains the same: to help people understand themselves with greater compassion, challenge unhelpful narratives, and create meaningful, lasting change—one conversation at a time.
