Adolescents

Dr. McElroy works with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, emotion regulation challenges, chronic illness and pain, body image concerns, and significant life transitions. Her approach balances insight-oriented exploration with practical, skills-based strategies to foster both emotional clarity and forward movement.

Interventions may include cognitive-behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness-based approaches, and clinical hypnosis when appropriate. The focus extends beyond symptom reduction to cultivating self-trust, stability, and sustainable growth.

Adolescence is a period of rapid emotional, cognitive, and social development. Therapy provides a structured and supportive space for teens to build coping skills, strengthen identity development, and improve emotional regulation while navigating academic, peer, and family stressors. Parent collaboration is incorporated thoughtfully to support progress while maintaining appropriate therapeutic boundaries.

What to Expect in Therapy

The process begins with a comprehensive consultation to understand your concerns, history, and goals. Together, we establish a clear treatment direction that remains adaptable as growth unfolds. Sessions are collaborative and intentional, providing a confidential space to process experiences, identify patterns, and develop effective strategies for change.

Clients can expect a grounded, respectful environment that integrates emotional depth with practical progress — supporting both insight and action.

If you are considering therapy, we welcome the opportunity to discuss whether services are a good fit for your needs.

Eating Disorder & Bariatric Psychological Care

Eating disorders and bariatric-related psychological challenges require specialized, nuanced care. Dr. McElroy has extensive experience working within multidisciplinary medical settings and collaborating with physicians, dietitians, and treatment teams to provide comprehensive support.

Her work includes the treatment of binge eating disorder, restrictive eating patterns, emotional eating, and body image distress. She has contributed to the development and implementation of evidence-based curriculum within a Binge Eating Disorder intensive outpatient program and has provided direct clinical care across varying levels of treatment.

In addition, Dr. McElroy works with individuals both before and after weight loss surgery, including those experiencing complications, non-response, or co-occurring eating disorder diagnoses. Treatment focuses on emotional regulation, behavioral stabilization, body image integration, and long-term sustainability.

Care is provided within a body-respectful, non-stigmatizing framework that supports both psychological and physical well-being.
